Ball retires

MARTYN Ball, the Gloucestershire off-spinner and outstanding slip fielder, has announced his retirement from county cricket after 18 years to take up a job in the property business. The jovial soul turned himself into a very useful one-day player and the county won an incredible eight titles during his time. A notable fatty in his last couple of seasons, he will be missed on the circuit. He has been serving as chairman of the Professional Cricketers Association.
