ENGLAND coach Duncan Fletcher is more likely to leave his job before Steve McClaren, his struggling football equivalent. That is the view of Ladbrokes, who rate Fletcher 4/ll on to depart first. McClaren, with no track record, is 2/1.
Fletcher could well suggest this summer will be his last in charge however much or little England achieve in the World Cup. They should beat Ireland in their opening Super Eight game in Guyana on Friday. Ed Joyce is 9/4 to score more runs than Ireland’s top five, an insult to the Dubliner’s former team-mates from the bookmakers. The left-hander is 5/1 against scoring a century. England are 66/1 to win all six games in this phase, and 8/1 to win five.
The West Indies have drifted out to 20/1 to win the tournament with most bookmakers after today’s defeat by New Zealand.
