A FIJI player hit 257 off 145 balls in an Under-19 World Cup qualifying match in Vanuatu today. Josefa Rika helped his team to 440 for eight off 50 overs in a 387-run win against Japan in the East Asia-Pacific tournament.
The hapless Japanese had only just recovered from Andrew Mansale’s efforts against them for Vanuatu. He hit 157 and shot them out for 34 with his off-spin, taking five wickets for five. That was a 347-run victory. Japan were new to this level and obviously not at all competent.
The final will be between Papua New Guineau and Vanuatu on Sunday, with the winners going through to the main event in Malaysia in February next year.
