Statue no-balled

The splendid bronze statue, called ‘Bowler’, which now stands in the Nursery Ground at Lord’s, was no-balled by Westminster Borough Council as a public danger when it was unveiled in the Coronation Garden next to the main pavilion in 1999. The boot-spikes on the raised right foot were deemed to be a threat to passers-by (presumably those with too much Chardonnay), and sculpturer Antony Dufort had to use his file to ensure his bowler’s delivery remained legal.
